Gelcoat problems are not all the same problem. Crazing — fine surface cracking — is generally cosmetic. Blistering is generally water working into the laminate underneath, an active process rather than a static one, and it needs to be addressed rather than just filled over.
Detailing is the other half of keeping a hull in shape, and it matters for more than appearance — oxidized gelcoat left unprotected ages faster and is more prone to the problems above. Regular detailing is inexpensive compared with the refinishing work that follows years of neglect.
